Do I need to take that phone away?

Yesterday afternoon my son, and, I were watching tv. Maybe YouTube, or, something on Netflix’s. I can’t remember. I wasn’t really paying attention.

I was on my phone.

My son said, “Daddy watch”.

I briefly glanced up, and, said, “yup I am”. Then looked at my phone again.

Again a, “Daddy watch”.

“Ok buddy I will”, I reply.

I must have checked my phone again because he then said, “Do I need to take your phone away?”

Ummm, he’s seven. I sorta laughed it off.

Watched for abit and then looked at my phone again.

He got up, walked over and took my phone away.

Wow..... lesson learned.

This addiction of always checking messages, likes, comments, is it blind siding us from connecting with our families? Our co-workers. Our spouses? Our mates?

At what point do we learn to disconnect from technology, as, something that is healthy?

Something that would improve our relationships. Improve our sleep. Improve our wellbeing by just turning off the phone.

Try it tonight. Leave your phone in another room tonight. See if you get a better sleep.

The next time I’m watching tv with my son, my phone will be upstairs, out of reach and out of mind.
