Canada’s economic recovery is built on the back of consumer spending. Yet, officials worry that too much consumer spending will add to Canadians’ debt burden. Given your household spending in 2011, do you plan on spending as much in 2012?

Just a wee bit less than last year with a focus on less credit card use. I use my debit card more often these days! The only winner from all this will be the banks.......... as always?
P. McGowan - No
We plan to spend less in 2012 just to fight price increases particularly in Food and Gasoline. We see eating less as beneficial to losing weight and improving our health and driving less precludes us paying many of the tax increases levied on gasoline in Vancouver to pay for Public Transit which is horribly mis-managed by a bunch of incompetents who should have been FIRED long ago.

Times are tough and going to remain so. Believe it is fiscally resonsible to be a conservative.

Bank of Canada should increase interest rate by 3%. This will lower cost of housing as they will drop in price. This should stop line of credit spending on non essensials. To protect existing mortgage holder the Government should freeze existing rates for a minimun of 7 to 10 years. During this time mortgage holders can reduce their mortgages with extra payments. If they do not they will suffer the consequences when the protection if over.
Bill Kelsall - Yes
When the cost of the essentials of life such as food and lodging keep rising, it is hard not to increase spending, never mind keep it the same.
- No
As much as possible I will spend only on our needs.
Charlotte - Yes
We have a budget and it will be about the same as 2011

Spending cut to "bare bones" NOW!!! Unable, at this time, to reduce further in light of what the so-called "Green" Energy Act will do to electricity rates in the Province of Ontario in the foreseeable future!!
Roxanne - No
I am not concerned about my spending. I am more concerned about the government spending my money. For those people who voted and they think we are not taxed enough need some education regarding government wasting our money. I am able to manage my spending but there are too many people in government who waste our tax dollars with their own agenda in mind. The financial institutions should also take responsibility and not lend money to people who do not know how to budget or manage their own finances. Not everyone is able to afford a home and they do not understand the finaicial responsibility required to make mortgage payments, property taxes, household expenses, utilities etc. not to mention home insurance, vehicle insurance, gas, etc. These people should, rent or share expenses until they have enough money saved for a down payment and all the taxes, legal fees, renovations, maintenance etc. Live within your means people! It is time to wake up and smell the coffee and stop living beyond your means and credit which you can not afford.

Ii would be mostly things that are a necesity so it might fluctuate with the cost of stuff - gas, apt. rent, groceries etc.
DAWSON - Yes
Nobody should spend beyond his or her means. If not in possesion of suficient MONEY to pay off monthly credit charges in full, then he or she needs to reduce EXPENSES - starting with those of a discretionary nature.
Grace - No
I do not have sufficient income coming so obiviously I would not be spending too much.

I spent prudently in 2011 and previous years and will continue to do so. I grew up in the 1930's depression time and learned good habits from my parents. I hope I have passed these on to my children.
